What process are included in migration skills assessment?

The process of Migration Skills Assessment by Engineers Australia normally takes around 4 to 7 months through the usual route. In order to apply for migration to Australia under the Scheme of Skilled Migration, you should ensure that your engineering discipline is listed in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). If the SOL list consists your engineering discipline, you are required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through Skill Select. You are then required to show that you have the necessary skills and qualifications for your nominated occupation. All the engineers have different ANZSCO Occupation Codes. Among these, you need to choose any one depending on your disciplines.
The Engineers Australia assesses your engineering skills as well as qualifications and passes its report to the Skill Select. If you achieve the desired number of points i.e. at least 60 points, you will get an invitation for applying for the visa within 60 days of the process of assessment.
There are three occupational categories recognized by Engineers Australia within the engineering practice in Australia:
  1. Professional Engineer
  2. Engineering Technologist
  3. Engineering Associate

For the purpose of migration, EA recognizes the additional category of Engineering Manager.
According to their skills and knowledge, engineers in every category have different academic qualifications as well as different roles to play accordingly.

Professional Engineer

The Professional Engineer must complete an Australian 4 year’s bachelor degree in engineering from University following 12 years of schooling or correspondent.
Roles:
  • Focuses on the overall system.
  • Pursues opportunities of engineering on the basis of environmental, community and social problems.
  • Implement systematic procedures to conduct and manage engineering projects.

Engineering Technologist

The Engineering Technologist must complete an Australian 3 year’s bachelor’s degree in engineering and technology from University following 12 years of schooling or correspondent.
Roles:
  • Focuses on interaction in the system.
  • Develops engineering technology.

Engineering Manager

The Engineering Manager must complete a bachelor’s degree in engineering or fields related to engineering from University following 12 years of schooling or correspondent.
Roles:
  • Formulates the strategies, plans and policies related to engineering.
  • Controls and reviews the operations of engineering for an organization.
